The beast began to circle us, the circles becoming smaller and smaller, terrified me and Amda backed up with no where to go we bumped into each other, now back to back we to walked in circles one of us always watching, waiting for the beast to pounce I drew my sword
"what do you think your gonna do with that, it's a ghost you cant just cut it down" Amda said callously
"ha that's what you think you'll see I rubbed it in salt before we left town" I reassured him
I waited patiently for a good opening. I charged my sword gripped by both my hands and plunged the sword straight into it's chest with no solid body the sword went straight through and I fell flat on my face my sword impaling me as I fell on it,
"Shadow!! salt hurting ghosts is only a myth!" he howled sadly,
The phantom walked over to the body and began to sniff it, suddenly the beast looked up quickly as if startled by something, Amda looked around
"hello" a creepy female voice said from behind him a shiver ran up his spine, he turned around slowly stiff with fear to see who stood behind him, it was the woman that had told them about the beast, she held a large cat skull in her hand
"you, how, but why" Amda said dumbfounded
she cackled, "my grate grate grand father Edmund was hunter, he brought this panther's skull home with him as a trophy, soon after that sightings of a phantom panther began to surface across the town over the year the phantom became angry and started killing towns people and animals, Edmund soon realised that the ghost was attached to the skull he had brought home he went insane from knowledge that he had caused so much death one night he confronted the phantom out in the moore, he swore to the beast that he would give his life, in exchange the beast would never hurt anything again Edmund then buried the skull and promised that someday a member of his family would return it to Africa so that the ghost may finally rest in Peace, the phantom killed my grandfather that night and never killed again until I found the diary where Edmund had wrote in, from what it told me I figured out how to control the beast, just as he did when he made that bargain and even before that the phantom killed because of Edmund's PTSD fuelled night terrors. I have the skull and now it dose my bidding" she explained nefariously Amda stared at her in disbelief
"you see, I told you it was her" I crowed proudly
Amda jumped letting out a yelp "you've just nearly given me a heart attack, I thought you where dead..... errm you have something ...ermm ...right here"
he pulled the sword out of my stomach, the hole left by the weapon began to glow and close mere seconds later even the cloths where back to normal not even a drop of blood was left behind even the sword was mysteriously clean
"oh thanks and no I'm immortal, it's next to impossible to kill me I just didn't want to get eaten so I played dead, can I have that back please" I said pointing at my sword, Amda looked at the sword he quickly gave it back I smiled gratefully and sheathed it
"ok new plan we'll both rush her at which point she'll call the beast to protect her, then we'll split up I'll take the ghost you grab the skull, you've got to smash it anyway you can" I whispered to Amda
"are you sure we might need the skull" Amda whispered worried
"the phantom told me so, trust me that poor creature as much of a victim in this mess then it's victim's" I whispered reassuring him, he stared at me with an open mouth
"the phantom told you, and you believe it" he whispered a little too loudly
"shh yes now trust me, I know a tortured soul when I hear one please, trust my judgement" I pleaded
Amda sighed "I'm gonna regret this" he complained as he nodded to me I grinned and nodded back with that we charged at the woman,
"stop them!" she commanded the beast,
the beast charged towards us, I jumped though the air as if to tackle the behemoth, I passed straight through into the apparitions shadowy body. Amda watched as the beast thrashed about then placed his focus back on his objective
"hey, hey stop him!" she shrieked as she ran away, he looked back to see if the beast was now coming for him and there it was bounding toward him suddenly a panther made of pure fire tackle it
"get that skull!" I yelled as I ran after the fighting monsters also on fire my eyes glowing as bright as sun light Amda stared at me in disbelief but continued to chase down the women.
The beast swiped at the fire panther with it big shadowy claws, the fire panther sprung up on it's hind legs and went for the throat, beast latched it's claws into the fire panther's back, the two furiously rolled around, the beast finally got free and ran for Amda the fire panther once again ponced on the beast, the fire panther clearly bigger then it was a few minutes ago, the two behemoths continued to battle fiercely in the background as Amda ran after the woman, he dived and managed to tripped her she fell onto the ground hard, dropping the skull as she fell, she looked back at Amda and kicked him in the face "ahh" he grunted as he let lose of her legs, she began to crawl as fast as she could to where the skull sat, Amda crawled after her grabbing her and then climbing over her to get in front, only to get pulled back by the woman she crawled back in front, he pulled her back they began to wrestle with each other, suddenly smash! they both looked to see Shadow standing with her foot through the skull "nooooooo" the women screamed, she crawled to picked up all the pieces, she began to frantically try to put it back together.
I grinned at Amda and offered him my hand, he smiled gently and accepted, I helped him up, now with the skull in hundreds of pieces the terrifying apparition had disappeared, leaving behind this 6ft anthropomorphic black panther laying on the ground, we gathered around him, after a few minutes his eyes began to slowly flutter open
"uuf my head" the panther whined in a deep voice
"hey are you ok" I asked
"what happened to you" Amda enquired
"I.....I was travailing with my family, when we crashed near here I was the only one who survived, heart broken and afraid to show myself to the humans in the town, having hard stories about how your kind tend to treat unusual.... erm... guests I decided to hide in this forest starving and lonely I started slowly going insane then suddenly, that spirit possessed me I had no control I am so sorry for the pain I have caused the hole thing is like a nightmare thank Leo it's over" the panther admitted sombrely
"it's ok it wasn't your fault, hey erm how dose the guild feel about extraterrestrial guests" I asked Amda he looked at me confused
"extraterrestrial, wait you mean alien" Amda exclaimed in shock
"that's raciest" I retorted
"what oh right, sorry, yes I'm sure the master won't mind, I'm Amda by the way and this is shadow, who are you" Amda asked
"Panthraz" he answered
"come on we should get going, come on I promise you'll be excepted, we'll take good care of you if it makes you feel better I'll transform into my werewolf form I can guarantee if I do no one will even notice you" I offered, Panthraz smiled
"thank you but I think one monster is enough" he said with a grateful smile, with that he put one of his huge furry arm around me and the other around Amda and helped him to his feet the three of us slowly walked him back to town, once there.
"Attention folks of Belmoore we have dealt with the beast, he won't bother you again, this women here was the real cause of your troubles she made the beast vicious, if not for her the beast would have never killed anyone or possessed this poor soul, so we'll leave her punishment in your hands" I informed everyone, I dropped the woman and she sat in a heap cradling the skull fragments and muttering to herself. The whole town cheered
"thank you, thank you, I'm the mayor of this town we can't afford to give you what the flyers promised, but please take this as a small thank you and don't worry, I'll make sure Sherrie is properly punished" the mayor assured us as he handed us a large sack of produce from the fields
"thank you very much for your kindness, we best be off come on guys lets go home" I stated, we slowly walked out of town to home Panthraz still unsteady on his feet.
